1. International EF Walcker Symposium 2002
among others with excursion to Neuhausen auf den Fildern

The 1st international EF Walcker symposium took place in cooperation with the "Society of  Organ Friends (GDO)" in Schramberg from September 26th to 28th. For this event the most famous and most well-known professors and experts from all of Europe are expected. About 8,000 invitations altogether have been sent to the European music experts!

For us it is particularly pleasant that one of the two external visiting aims of the symposium has been our E.F. Walcker organ in Neuhausen on Saturday, September 28th, 2002 !

The great international importance of our Walcker organ is confirmed by a quite independent side with that event.

The about 60 participants of the symposium and approximately 20 citizens from Neuhausen were welcomed in Neuhausen first and then briefly introduced into the history of the parish Neuhausen/Filder and the E.F. Walcker organ by our deanery church musician Markus. After the welcome Prof. Rudolf Meyer described the special sound of our organ. Mr. Meyer is professor at the college of music in Winterthur, Switzerland. He made some comparisons with other organs and emphasized that organ represents a real gem for Neuhausen.

He played works of August Gottfried Ritter,  Camille Saint-Saens,r Alexandre Piere Félix Boely and Johann Sebastian Bach.

Organ restoration Neuhausen is allocated to Saxony

Fa.Hermann Eule Orgelbau in Bautzen receives order for the restoration
of the E.F. Walcker organ in St.Petrus and Paulus Neuhausen auf den Fildern

The order for the restoration of the valuable Eberhard Friedrich Walcker organ of 1854 in the parish church St. Peter and Paul Neuhausen went to Hermann Eule Orgelbau to the organ workshop in Bautzen/Saxony. On June, 24th, the Parish Council of St. Peter and Paul decided this. With this decision an almost two-year, substantial and difficult process in the formation of opinion comes to an end. It has been carried out in cooperation with the organ commission of the diocese Rottenburg-Stuttgart established especially for this.

The costs for the refurbishment of the is listed instrument will be around 597.000. euros. The start of the restoration measures still lets wait a little bit, though. The delivery time for a such comprehensive project is approximately two and a half till three years. The Neuhausen Walcker organ still can be heard however till Christmas 2003. After this it will be dismantled completely and taken to the workshop to Bautzen. The instrument then shall be consecrated again at the latest in June 2005.

The company Eule Orgelbau was set up in Bautzen in 1872 by the master organ builder Hermann Eule. By chance, this is the year of death of Eberhard Friedrich Walcker. Soon, the company belonged to the leading organ building companies in Saxony and in the Oberlausitz. With buildings of new organs in the German romantic style like studied at Walcker-organs Company Eule made its name furthermore also with restorations of valuable organs such as the famous Silbermann organ in Freiberg/Saxony and the E.F. Walcker organ to Riga. During GDR times the company has been forced to be a nationalized company. In this times it  was rather orientated towards the east and built big organs in the cathedrals in Bautzen, Zwickau, Meißen and Warsaw/Poland as well as some instruments in Berlin. Leipzig and Dresden. After the German reunification the Fa.Eule denationalized again and in the same time it received some restoration orders of important instruments: The E.F. Walcker organs in Annaberg/Erzgebirge and in St. Petri to Soest/Westphalia; the organ of the Walcker pupil Steinmeyer in the great St. Martins Church Bamberg as well as the historical Hildebrandt organ in the Wenzelskirche Naumburg. This the latter organ has been arranged in  the stops and inspected by J.S. Bach personally.

In January 2002, Company Eule completed the new organ of the college of music in Leipzig in the new concert hall founded in 1843 by nobody else than Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy. It is a concert organ with 60 stops in the style of the German organ Romanticism, a novelty in the German organ landscape.

At present Company Eule is restoring the biggest organ of Saxony in the famous Nikolai church in Leipzig, the starting place of the peaceful German revolution in 1989 and earlier domain J.S. of Bach. This instrument has been built in 1862 with 84 stops by the Walcker "of the east", Friedrich Ladegast. This organ is presently, the same is true for the organ in Neuhausen, restored into its original state.

Christine Bayer in AktionOrgan kiosk on the parish celebration at Corpus Christi (May 30th, 2002) and on Sunday after Corpus Christi (June 2nd)

On the municipality celebration at Corpus Cristi and on Sunday, June 2nd, our visitors in the parish garden again found our organ kiosk with its versatile sales assortment. Like last year our guests did enjoy our organ champagne so that the celebration has been the reason for meeting people as well as for conversation. Our booklets, hot from the press, with all important information in it about the organ project were displayed and many guests took the chance of taking it with home for further reading.  The musician of the Sacred Sacred Music, Diözesankirchenmusiker Markus Grohmann, demonstrated the WaIcker organ and explained its present difficulties directly in the church. For most of the visitors it has been very impressive to hear so  many details on Der letztjährige Blumenteppich vor dem Altar an der Mozartschuleorgans and on our own instrument.

A warm thank-you to the many voluntary helpers who have been the reason for the great success of the this year celebration.

The team of the organ kiosk thanks you for having visited us!

Das Wappen der Bürgergarde Neuhausen/Filder 1805 e.V. mit dem Wahlspruch: Gottesliebe, Heimatliebe, NächstenliebeDonation handing over of 1,675. € from the collection of old clothes and waste paper of the Bürgergarde Neuhausen 1805 e.V. at this year's Feast of Corpus Christi

On May 30th, the Bürgergarde Neuhausen 1805 registered association (historical citizen guard) donated the proceeds of 1.675,- € of its waste paper and old clothes collection for the renovation of the E.F. Walcker Organ  (Corpus Christi). After the traditional "Fronleichnamsschiessen" Chieftain Bruno Reinauer submitted the check to the Priest Alfred Kirsch. In his opening words Mr Reinauer emphasized the narrow attachment of the Bürgergarde to the requests of the Church. With the donation for the organ the Bürgergarde wants to give its contribution to the renovation of our organ and with that to the conservation of a piece of our native country and to the preservation and to the embellishment of our liturgy as well. This is in line with the motto of the Bürgergarde "God love, native country love, charity,"

Mr Kirsch cordially thanked the Bürgergarde Neuhausen and all helpers for their effort and their engagement. He expressed the hope that other organizations in the community may perhaps follow this praiseworthy example.

Return of the loans for our organ exhibition to Gerhard Walcker-Mayer and Mrs. Dr. Werner Walcker-Mayer

On Sunday March 17th, 2002 we could give back the loans to family Walcker-Mayer. We say “thank-you” quite warmly for making  the very valuable exhibits of E.F. Walcker available to us.

E.F. Walcker-exhibition on the 1. floor of the Neuhausen city hall

Bürgermeister Ingo Hacker im Gespräch mit Herrn Gerhard Walcker-MayerOn February 25th our Walcker exhibition with original objects of E.F. Walcker has been inaugurated by our mayor Ingo Hacker. In his address to the audience he pointed out that the civil municipality and all citizens of Neuhausen have a great interest to get this valuable instrument restaured. Neuhausen thus will become a pilgrimage place for organists and organ fans from all over the world.

The municipality Neuhausen expresses its support for the restauration by making a start-up donation of 51.129,- €.

Our parish priest Alfred Kirsch thanked Mr Hacker and the municipality that the exhibition could be organized in the foyer of the city hall.  He was deeply grateful for the generous financial support from the municipality.

The musician of the Sacred Music, Dekanatskirchenmusiker Markus Grohmann, gave a short overview on the personal and artistic career of the organ builder Eberhard Friedrich Walcker. (You can look up his whole talk in German language here).

The exhibition has been made possible by the spontaneous support of the great-great-grandson of E.F. Walcker, Mr Gerhard Walcker-Mayer. In his address he explained the history of  the organ builder family Walcker over more than 7 generations.

Das originale Emailleschild von Opus 126 aus dem Jahre 1854Motto for all Walckers always was to produce organs of highest quality claiming  the "artistic craftsman" for the Walckers. At the end of his explanations he gave the original organ-label to our parish priest Alfred Kirsch with the Opus number 126 dated 1854. He wished that in Neuhausen hopefully soon the original Walcker sound can be heard again.

Blick ins Foyer des 1. Stockes im Neuhausener RathausBesides other objects the exhibition contained select and personal exhibits of the organbuilder E.F. Walcker from  the time around 1850. This was  the time when our organ has been built in Ludwigsburg. A summary and an overview of details of our own organ and the current status of the renovation has been exhibited as well.
