Christmas-Concert with the C.I.S. boy choir Stuttgart

 - Saturday, December 7th 19:00s hours

Parish church of St. Peter and Paulus

Conducted by: Friedemann Keck, Organ: Antal Varadi

In the evening of the Neuhausen Christmas fair a quite large audience went to the parish church St. Peter and Paul. As expected the professionally trained voices of the boys and young men were able to put the listeners and listener in a really pre-Christmassy mood under the management of Friedemann Keck.  The choir offered the most demanding choral music. The Hungarian organist Antal Varadi exclusively elicited the still existing soft and corpulent Walcker sounds from our organ sensitively. The organ music of Franz Liszt is suited for it best. At the end of the concert the choirboys collected donations in total of euro 2.243,- €. in favor of the organ refurbishment. We cordially thank all singers. We also thank the conductor Mr Keck for his honorary engagement and this beautiful sign of a church musical solidarity from Stuttgart!

Contents

The musical textually orientates itself at the most prominent life situations of the saint Elisabeth of Thuringia:

Die SolistenElisabeth, daughter of Andreas II. of Hungary, has been engaged as very young girl to the only 10-year-old son Ludwig of the landgrave Hermann from Thuringia on Wartburg castle. In the year 1221 she married the landgrave Ludwig and became a country countess of Thuringia and Hesse. Three children resulted from this marriage. Ludwig had to follow the emperor Friedrich II to Palestine where he was killed a few years later. Elisabeth who abstained from her special privileges of the high nobility developed into the energetic advocate of the poor and sick. Increasingly she got uncomfortable and unpleasant  to the mighty people in her country more and became thus the "social conscience" for the count house. 1227 Elisabeth moved to the landgrave ock in Marburg.  1228/1229 she build the Franziskanerspital in Marburg and exclusively devoted herself to the care for the poor arms and nursing. Elisabeth died on November 17th, 1231 at the age of only 24 years. Her way of life was completely unusual for a noblewoman in those times. And already during her life times she was regarded to be a "people saint". (Remark: Elisabeth became cf. today perhaps mother Teresa).  In the year 1235 Elisabeth of Thuringia became canonized by pope Gregor IX
